It has been said that figurative painters represent realities, and abstract painters intentions. From this point of view, how might we classify Claude Gaveau? He paints approaches. He cares little for detail, and indeed eludes it, since his perfect economy has already defined his theme. No lines, no limits. Here, colour guides the eye just as melody guides the ear, and the comparison seems to me all the more accurate in that it extends into vibration and triumphs by movement. Claude Gaveau brings to mind one of our finest contemporary poets: Guillevic. Here too is a man who defines less in order to say more.

This is a classic French stone lithograph that demonstrates why many see Gaveau as the most important contemporary artist actively creating artwork in France today, the next in a lineage of French Masters decended from legends such as Picasso and Mouly. The piece is approximately 28" by 22.5 printed full bleed (no margins)." It is hand signed and lettered EA (European for artist's Proof) by Gaveau in pencil.
