About the Artist: B. 1933 - Artist Howard Behrens Howard Behrens was born in Chicago. He holds a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in Fine Art from the University of Maryland. He has had over 150 one-man shows from coast-to-coast since becoming a professional artist in 1980. Howard Behrens, the world's most renowned palette knife artist. A palette knife is a tool artists traditionally use to mix oil paints before applying them to canvas. "I kept changing my style," Behrens explains. "I feel like every painting is a prerequisite for the next painting. You come across something that really rings a bell and starts you thinking differently, and you continue on with that new technique, style or subject matter. That's how I eventually got into palette knife painting. It was an evolutionary thing."

This evolution to today's rich, distinctive, texturized style has garnered Behrens numerous accolades and honors, including an appointment as an official artist of the 2002 Winter Olympics and the acceptance of many of his pieces into permanent museum archives around the world.

As a landscape and seascape artist, he has painted the idyllic lakes of Italy to the gardens of New England. Behrens? works have been on the covers of many art publications and he has been the featured subject of numerous magazines and newspapers. After visiting Giverny, France, the artist created a ?Tribute to Monet? series that was exhibited at the Embassy of France in Washington, D. C. As an official artist for the 2002 Winter Olympics, Behrens? painting, ?In Motion,? was featured at the games. The artist?s works are owned by numerous, well-known collectors and are in the permanent collections of many museums.
